Fotomix - Tutorial 2: Face swap with brush up

This tutorial shows how the boy's face was inserted onto the Jonas CD cover.
To start, we import Jonas as the background and the boy as the foreground.

Foreground

Background

In the foreground we erase everything around the boy's face.
We then move to the Composition Page, make the boy 50% transparent, just so that we can see the background underneath, and move and size so that the features of the two faces matches as good as possible.
Being satisfied with the boy's position, we use the eraser to erase the boy some more and thus bring out the hair.
After setting the transparency back to 0%, we have the following image.
Obviously, this is not good enough. The color of the two skins are the problem.
This we fix in the Touch Up Page.
We decide to cover the left ear with some hair using the Clone Brush.
We set the clone position to the hair a bit above the ear, and just draw on the ear and cover it with some heir from the clone position.
To change the color of the neck and the right ear, we use the Tint Brush.
We select the Tint color from the boy's face, and just draw carefully on the neck and the ear.
The final image:

That's all. Easy done. FotoMix did the job.
Finally, that clever boy used FotoMorph and created a small animation for his sister :)

Fotomix - Tutorial 1: Change of backround

The starting point is a famous photo of an equally famous referee.
I wanted to dramatize the photo and this tutorial describes how I did it.

I wanted a new background behind the referee, and found an image on Google that suited my purpose. (http://images.google.com/images)
In FotoMix I imported the lightning image as the background image and the referee as a foreground image.
To dramatize the lightening further, I clicked the Effect button in the Background Page and used the Rock filter to make the lightening stand out a bit.
Having done that, the Composition Page looked as follows:
It's easy to see that I needed to remove the background of the referee.
In FotoMix, this can be done both in the Foreground Page as well as in the Composition Page.
Removing the referee background was easiest done in the Foreground Page, using the Color Erase Brush.
To erase the gray/red surrounding the referee, I used the Color Picker  and picked the gray color.
I set the Color Tolerance slider to 10 and use the Color Erase Brush to erase around the referee.
Sometimes the Color Erase Brush removes more than intended.
Remember that you can undo this by using the right mouse button when you draw.
You can also decrease the color tolerance if the Color Erase Brush removes too much.
After erasing, the foreground image looked as follows.
Back in the Composition Page, I noticed, as always, that the transition between foreground and background looked edgy.
Not to worry. By selecting Anti-alias, the transition between foreground and background is automatically smoothed out nicely.
The illustration below shows the referee ear zoomed in with and without Anti-aliasing.
Composition
Brush Up
I sized and moved the referee image to the center of the background image, and added the text "you shall not..." which I placed at the bottom of the background image.

To further dramatize and create a god-like effect, I used the Edge Fade to blend the referee with the lightening.
Being satisfied with the composition, I moved on to the Touch Up Page.
Please notice;
The Touch Up Page is actually a transparent layer on top of your composition.
You can use the different brushes to draw on this layer.
However, if you later go back and for example move or size the foreground again, what you have done in the Touch Up Page, will no longer match the foreground and you will have to Undo All Brush Work and start over again.
In the Touch Up Page, I used the Smooth brush to smooth the referee face. Just for the fun of it and perhaps make him a bit more god like
In the Final Page , I select a thin frame and saved the image.
That's all. Easy done. 5 minutes in FotoMix did the job.

Fotomix - Tutorial 3: Using Tuning and Effects

In this tutorial, we try to make a beautiful lady look even more beautiful.
Original photo.

To smoothen her skin a bit, we use the Soft filter on the Effects page.
If we use the Apply to All switch, you can see below that this not only smoothen her skin, but also her hair and eye brows, and pretty much ruins contrasts in the photo.

Instead, we have to select the Brush Apply switch and brush up only the skin of her face and the result, as you can see below, is just what we wanted.

Finally we want to add a tiny bit more color to the face and we do the same way we smoothen the skin,
but this time we use the sunlight filter to add some sunlight color to the skin.

Fotomix - Tutorial 4: Transparent background

The figure below is actually a HTML table with a cell which has a sort of paper image background.
The image of the flower and butterfly is being displayed on top of the paper background.

To remove the background of the flower/butterfly image, you would need to make that background transparent, and that's what you use the transparent background option in FotoMix for.
On the Background Page we select Transparent Background and a size a bit larger than the flower/butterfly image.
On the Foreground Page we import the flower/butterfly image and erase the background as shown below.
T42
On the composition page, we simply fade a bit of the flower stem. and the final image which we save is shown below.
T43
Note that most browsers and image programs are only able to handle transparency within GIF and PNG files.
GIF files can only hold images where the transparency is either on or off. PNG files can hold images with grades of transparency. Therefor, GIF files often result in images shown with ragged edges. PNG files however, can have nice anti-aliased edges.
The illustration below, shows the HTML table cell with paper background and a PNG transparent flower/butterfly image on top.
